CCIS (Calgary Catholic Immigration Society) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Southern Alberta. Since our inception in 1981, we have been a community leader with solid experience in the design and delivery of comprehensive services for our newest neighbours. We deliver these services through a dynamic multi-cultural, multi-denominational and multi-disciplinary team of professionals who collectively speak over 90 languages.

From airport reception to a first job interview, CCIS’s programs and services have been designed to assist immigrants and refugees through all phases of the settlement and integration process. CCIS – Community Development and Integration Services (CDIS) Division

Our Community Development and Integration Services Division works towards empowering individuals and communities to make changes through education, volunteerism, and community development and integration strategies. CDIS is committed to creating a welcoming community and helping newcomers and the community alike work together to build an inclusive community. CDIS programs support this goal through various community approaches, including volunteerism, education, outreach, community development, and cultural diversity capacity building.

Job Summary

CCIS’s Community Development & Integration Services (CDIS) Division is looking for a highly motivated, community-minded individual to provide specific program delivery in the Chestermere/ Strathmore communities. The Rocky View Wheatland LIP (RVWLIP) Coordinator will be confident in promoting the RVWLIP partnership in the community, raising public awareness about the program, building key partnerships and working together to engage community members. Known for our focus on servicing newcomers and our innovative and collaborative community partnerships, our RVWLIP is committed to the community and is community-focused, collaborative, and consultative.

Functional Statement:

The Rocky View Wheatland Local Immigration Partnership (RVWLIP) is a collaborative community initiative funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).  Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs):

  • Systematize local engagement of service providers and other community organizations for welcoming and including newcomers in the community
  • Support community-level research and strategic planning
  • Improve coordination of effective services that facilitate immigrant settlement and integration

LIPs do not deliver services directly to newcomers but facilitate a collaborative framework with community partners to ensure the development and implementation of successful and sustainable strategies to integrate newcomer/immigrant needs, build welcoming communities, support immigrant recruitment and retention, create active inclusion, and increase the sense of belonging of newcomers.

The RVWLIP Co-Coordinator will be primarily responsible for managing and facilitating the objectives of the LIP in Chestermere and Strathmore.  They will work with the RVWLIP Co-Coordinator in Airdrie, Cochrane, and the region.  They will also work with the CCIS LIP team lead, the Foothills LIP Coordinator, and the MHLIP Coordinator and will be accountable to the Partnership Councils (or their Chair(s)).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Engage stakeholders in Chestermere, Strathmore, and surrounding regions
  • Work with these stakeholders so that there is a better understanding of LIP
  • Work together with communities in Chestermere and Strathmore to develop successful and sustainable strategies to:
    • Integrate newcomer/immigrant needs
    • Build welcoming communities
    • Support immigrant recruitment and retention
    • Create active inclusion
    • Increase the sense of belonging of newcomers
  • Work with these stakeholders to create (as needed), revise and implement local action plans in these regions
  • Facilitate the implementation of the RVWLIP strategic plan and regional action plans together with the current RVWLIP Co-Coordinator
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings
  • Support the Councils and Working Groups
  • Participate in meetings/activities held by partner organizations to foster strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Conduct research about the local needs of newcomers
  • Conduct program evaluations
  • Be informed of best practices

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education
    • University degree, or equivalent experience, in Communication, Community Development, International Relations, Project management, or cultural-focused discipline, including living abroad
    • Background and demonstrated evidence of recent work in community development and community engagement is essential
  • Experience
    • Proven track record of working with multiple stakeholders, maximizing collaboration and creative community solutions
    • Experience facilitating groups, processes, and community engagement
    • Experience in research, strategy development, communication plans, and marketing plans is an asset
  • Knowledge
    • Knowledge and understanding of issues related to the successful settlement of newcomers
    • Knowledge and understanding of communities in Rocky View is an asset
  • Abilities
    • Excellent command of written and verbal communication skills

    • High cultural competency
    • Organizational and project management skills are an asset

    • Current valid driver’s license and access to vehicle
