The Career Supports for Newcomer STEM Professionals

The Career Supports for Newcomer STEM Professionals supports foreign-trained STEM professionals in overcoming their barriers to employment. Based on up-to-date labour market information and trends, the program provides participants with an orientation to Alberta’s changing energy landscape, as well as the tools and information they need to find where their skills fit, and to map a rewarding career path in one of Alberta’s energy subsectors. 

The program will have the following intakes:

Cohort 1 – Start Date May 15, 2023Cohort 2 – Start Date July 24, 2023Cohort 3 – Start Date February 05, 2024Cohort 4 – Start Date March 08, 2024 – Currently Accepting Applications

In the Career Support for newcomer STEM Professionals, you will learn:

  • About current trends and projections for Alberta’s changing Energy Sector
  • How to map a meaningful career path in a thriving subsector of the Energy Industry
  • Canadian job search skills and strategies for finding and securing professional employment
  • Socio-emotional skills and intercultural competencies for retaining employment and exceling on the job

The Career Support for newcomer STEM Professionals will also provide:

  • 4-Weeks of Job Search skills, socio-emotional skills, and intercultural competencies needed to secure employment in the targeted field and succeed on the job.
  • 2-Weeks of orientation to Alberta’s changing energy landscape, as well as the tools and information to find where the skills fit, and to map a rewarding career path in one of Alberta’s energy subsectors.
  • Job Retention Support including coaching and mediation to ensure that participants remain employed and succeed on the job.

To participate in the project, you must:

  • Hold a post-secondary degree (such as a Diploma, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree) in a STEM-related field.
  • Have professional work experience.
  • Have a Canadian Benchmark Level of 6 or higher.
