There is much to learn when you and your family first arrive in High River. We assist with your immediate needs for housing, schools, health care and more.Â
Throughout the year, we provide workshops and information sessions to give you more knowledge about how to make High River your home. Our workshops cover a wide range of topics from driving in Alberta, to filing income tax, to learning about community events and discovering the many things you can do with your family.
Starting school in a new country can be very challenging for our children. We are here to make sure you and your children have the information they need to get off to a good head start. We will act as a liaison between you and the school and answer any questions you have about how our system works and how best to help your child succeed. We can assist with school registration, in-school guidance and referrals if necessary.
Teenagers bring their own unique viewpoint to our lives. While they are at school, we can introduce them to other students with similar interests and backgrounds. Culture Club is a weekly get-together in the school that helps new students connect with more established classmates. Our Youth Connections Program, and Mentor Matching build leadership and confidence skills for your youth, helping them overcome challenges in a supportive environment. Contact our office to find out which schools we are in and how you can participate.
As an organization with strong connections to High River, we have numerous opportunities for you to support our agency. You can lend a hand with office organization, paperwork, event management and helping others settle in our community.Â
Our flagship volunteer opportunity is Canada Connects. We are always looking for caring, committed individuals who have the time and flexibility to spend a few hours each week with a family who needs support and kindness as they resettle in Canada.
These are life-changing friendships waiting to be shared. We accept both family units and individuals.
Volunteers offer guidance and companionship to someone new, and help us provide support to our newest neighbours, and the community as a whole. Find out today how you can make a difference
Our staff and volunteers speak a number of different languages and can assist you during those times when speaking and understanding English with other community members is necessary. Official documents requiring legal or medical translation can be facilitated by our Calgary office who have access to certified translators. Contact Shadi Zaidan at [email protected]. This is a fee-for-service.
We help foreign workers develop the life skills they need to reach their full economic potential. We foster self-reliance and adaptability during the time our clients live and work in Alberta, whether it is temporarily, or as they transition to permanent residency.
Rural Mentorship for Integration is designed to bring mentors & mentees with similar educational, skill, & experience background together for the benefit of both. Click the service link to learn more!
We acknowledge Calgary and area as Treaty 7 territory. We acknowledge the Treaty 7 nations; the Piikani, Siksika, Kainai, Iyarhe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina First Nations.
