In every community, there are individuals whose lives illuminate the path for others. In Airdrie, I have come to realize that I am one of those lights — not because my life has been easy, but because it has been purposeful.
My story started long before titles like Founder, President, or Senior Business Analyst ever became part of my world. I grew up as a Black woman strengthened by faith, learning resilience not as an abstract idea, but as something I practiced every single day.
My life took a defining turn in February 2021, when I arrived in Canada not with certainty, but with courage. As a natural giver, I quickly recognized the need to give back in spaces I had personally walked through, both in Nigeria and now here in Canada: mental health support and community support.
As I navigated my new environment, the confusion of starting over, the isolation, the feeling of being suspended between two worlds — I felt all of it deeply because I was living it myself.
Motherhood sharpened my purpose even more. I wanted my children to see me as a Black woman who rose not because life was easy, but because I refused to shrink.
From my conviction — reinforced by faith, love, and hope — IAmWhole Outreach Foundation was born. It did not come from abundance. It came from purpose.
As I began serving the community, I met local nonprofits, small businesses, and community leaders who shared my heartbeat for Airdrie. Working alongside them didn’t just support my mission; it strengthened my sense of purpose.
Today, I stand as:
- A Black woman who has carved out space where value is delivered
- A mother who leads with love and legacy
- A founder who builds with intention and a heart for community
- A newcomer who transformed her challenges into pathways for others
- A community advocate who believes belonging is a right, not a privilege
And for me — Ibinabo Akinbode — this is only the beginning.
