Newcomers Experience the Magic of Banff: A First Taste of Canadian Winter
For around 100 Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) currently staying at our temporary accommodations, their first Canadian winter adventure was nothing short of breathtaking. Thanks to our ongoing partnership with Brewster Sightseeing, these newcomers had the chance to explore the stunning beauty of Banff National Park on a day-long trip filled with unforgettable moments.
The journey began early, with clients and counsellors boarding two Brewster Sightseeing buses. Their first stop was Lake Minnewanka, where they took in the serene winter landscape before heading to the town of Banff for lunch. Bundled up in the winter clothing provided upon their arrival in Calgary, they continued their adventure with a scenic visit to Elbow Falls, capturing memories through photos and laughter.
The highlight of the day? A ride on the Banff Gondola, offering sweeping views of the majestic Rocky Mountains. For many, especially children, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience—an introduction not just to Canada’s natural beauty but also to the sense of wonder that comes with starting fresh in a new country.
This trip, made possible by Brewster Sightseeing’s generous support since 2016, is more than just a day out; it’s an opportunity for newcomers to create joyful memories as they begin their journey in Calgary and beyond. The gratitude expressed by clients reminded our counsellors why these efforts matter, making every moment of planning worthwhile.
For these families, this enthralling trip was the beginning of feeling at home in Canada.
