Port of Entry Services / Airport Reception Program

This program aims to cater to the needs of various groups of immigrants such as Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) bound to Calgary and the Prairie Region, Privately Sponsored Refugees (PSRs), CUAET visa holders, independents, family class, skilled workers, and Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs).

We provide direct assistance to newcomers upon their first arrival at the Calgary Airport (YYC) through these services:

Meet and greet newcomers at the YYC to assist them, at international and domestic gates.
Assisting with immigration process, collection of baggage and provision of winter clothing from Oct. 15 to Apr. 15 (for GARs).
Linking PSRs with sponsors waiting outside the secure area and assisting with any issues they may have with immigration processes, baggage collection etc.
On-site interpretation if needed with the airport and government partners.
Addressing any emergency health concerns.
Assisting the newcomers with lost luggage claims.
Providing newcomers with ground transportation to their sponsors or to their temporary accommodation pre-arranged with CCIS Resettlement Assistant Program (RAP) Team.
Provision of emergency food.
Assisting newcomers who are destined to other cities across the Prairies and Northern Territories (PNT) and transiting through YYC to get to their connecting flights and providing food and information if there are delays, long waiting times.
Assisting with secondary migration out of Calgary for GARs as they might decide to migrate to other cities in Canada. Also, advocating with airlines in case of any issues may arise.
