Throughout July and August, Rocky View Immigrant Services (RVIS) delivered summer programming for newcomer youth in Strathmore, helping participants build safety awareness, life skills, and community connections.
The program featured sessions led by local RCMP officers on bike safety, online safety, and careers in law enforcement. Youth also learned about emergency preparedness, including when and how to call 911, fire safety, and how to create safe home evacuation plans.
Participants gained practical first aid knowledge, including how to respond to minor injuries, burns, frostbite, and heat-related illnesses. A workshop facilitated by True North explored healthy relationships, trusted supports, and personal safety through interactive activities, including a tie-dye T-shirt project.

By combining hands-on learning with community engagement, the program helped newcomer youth build confidence, develop important life skills, and feel more connected to their community.
