CCIS (Calgary Catholic Immigration Society) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Southern Alberta. Since our inception in 1981, we have been a community leader with solid experience in the design and delivery of comprehensive services for our newest neighbours. We deliver these services through a dynamic multi-cultural, multi-denominational and multi-disciplinary team of professionals who collectively speak over 90 languages.

From airport reception to a first job interview, CCIS’s programs and services have been designed to assist immigrants and refugees through all phases of the settlement and integration process. CCIS is committed to welcoming and serving newcomers of all races, ethnic and national origins, cultural backgrounds and religions, sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions.

CCIS – Resettlement and Integration Services (RIS) Division

CCIS Resettlement & Integration Services (RIS) division provides support services that enable Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) to transition to a new life in Calgary. RIS also offers several programs specific to refugee children and youth. RIS programs are designed to: assist in developing the independence of our clients, build capacity within the family structure and enhance our clients’ economic success. Our team of multicultural Counsellors provides settlement assistance in over 90 languages.

 

 

Job Summary

CCIS is seeking an attentive and dynamic Summer Program Lead (Bilingual) to join our team at the Land of Dreams, a pioneering urban farming initiative dedicated to regenerative agriculture, community building, and environmental sustainability.

This role is pivotal in leading and supporting ongoing English and French summer programming, in collaboration with key mentors, facilitators, and the community of participants and volunteers. The ideal candidate, between 19 to 30 years old, will have a talent for working with diverse communities, strong communication and organizational skills, and a passion for sustainable farming practices.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Program development and implementation:
  • Through consultation with French-speaking community leaders, identify participant areas of interest for workshops and cultural exchanges.
  • Work with community leaders, partners, staff, etc. to develop, support and/or deliver a series of hands-on, accessible workshops, cultural exchanges, meet-ups, etc. to diverse French-speaking newcomer communities.
  • Communication:
  • Use strong written and oral communication skills to translate, interpret, consult, promote, support, work side-by-side, and communicate with French-speaking growers, staff, partners, etc.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the Community Connector and First Nations Lead, and partners to define clear seasonal goals for French-speaking participants and communicate these effectively to community members.
  • Volunteer and Market Coordination:
  • Support individual and organizational volunteer recruitment and coordination as needed by contributing to a welcoming and well-oriented environment for participants, volunteers, program partners, etc.
  • Reporting:
  • Regularly updated participant attendance data and contact information for all events, markets, dinners and workshops.

 

Outcomes:

  • Strong Relationships:
    • Support ongoing relationship building with diverse French-speaking newcomers and new-Canadian communities.
  • Empowered Participation:
    • Identify individual strengths of key French community leaders, communicators, and participants to co-create workshops, support skill development, and community connections.
  • Effective Bilingual Program Delivery:
    • Through relationships with partner organizations, community leaders, and knowledge holders, deliver a French workshop series related to Land of Dreams priorities for newcomer French communities.
  • Seasonal Recommendations:
    • Building from formal and informal reports throughout the season, present an end-of-year report that includes recommendations for effective French program delivery and partnership development into the future.

Qualifications and Skills

  • French & English bilingualism is required.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to create structured schedules and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Experience in facilitation, teaching, community engagement, volunteer coordination, or related fields.
  • Passion for sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and community development.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
