National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Helpful Resources to Guide You – Part 2

Throughout September, the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society’s Culture of Belonging Committee is sharing a series of educational resources to help members of our community deepen their knowledge and understanding of the significance of Truth and Reconciliation as well as the symbolism of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation which is commemorated in Canada on September 30 of each year.

Last week we shared a mix of insightful, thought-provoking and entertaining video content which you can find here.

This week, we’d like to invite you to explore the following reading materials:

1.) ReconciliAction (five-minute read)

The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund defines “reconciliAction” and provides exciting ideas for individual and community actions to take in the spirit of active reconciliation, including links to additional activities and resources.

2.) Land Acknowledgements (six-minute read)

The Alberta Teachers’ Association provides an explainer on the importance of land acknowledgements and the important role they play in fostering reconciliation.

3.) Along the Métis Trail: Métis History, Heritage, and Culture

This historical book co-authored by Métis scholar, George Goulet, and his historian wife, Terry Goulet, provides a vivid up-to-date portrayal of the fabulous history, heritage, and culture of the Métis People from the late 1700s to 2022.

We also would like to encourage you to explore the following websites:

As always, we welcome an open discussion about any and all of these resources via the comments section on this post.

We are grateful for the opportunity to keep doing our good work in welcoming, and supporting newcomers through the lens of “ReconciliAction”, a meaningful action that moves reconciliation forward.

We are all guests on this land.
