SOPA Turns 10!

SOPA was launched in 2015 as a national initiative, originally developed by the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia. Since then, it has grown into a trusted, Canada-wide program that helps immigrants prepare for life and work in Canada — before they arrive.

Over the past 10 years, SOPA has supported thousands of newcomers through personalized guidance, employment preparation, and settlement planning. We’ve also expanded our offerings to include community connections, foreign credential navigators, online events, youth programming, and a specialized course for refugees, ensuring our services meet the evolving needs of those preparing to make Canada their new home. To mark this milestone, we’ve created a special video featuring reflections from SOPA team members and partners across Canada.

Their stories highlight the heart, growth, and impact of our shared journey:

“SOPA has been through an incredible journey. From 2015 until now, we continue to grow, innovate, and serve newcomers with care and commitment.”

“Supporting newcomers as a facilitator and intake counselor has been incredibly rewarding.”

“SOPA is always rethinking how we deliver services — offering flexible, client-centered options for learning and support.”

Thank you to our clients for trusting us, and to our partners for collaborating with us to make SOPA what it is today. Here’s to the next 10 years of empowering newcomers and building welcoming communities across Canada.
