HIGH RIVER AG SOCIETY WELCOMES NEWCOMERS
On July 24, 2025, the High River AG Grounds came alive as forty newcomers experienced one of Alberta’s most iconic traditions—the chuckwagon races. For most, this was their first time attending such an event, and the excitement was visible.
Thanks to High River Agricultural Society, attendees could participate free of charge, removing barriers and making the event accessible to them. Laura Suarez from our Foothills Community Immigrant Services (FCIS) in High River played a key role in helping newcomers understand the races, offering guidance and explaining the newcomers what the show was all about.
The grandstands echoed with laughter and cheers as the group immersed itself in the experience. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees describing the event as “amazing,” “so fun to watch,” and something they’d love to experience again.
Beyond the entertainment, the evening was a celebration of cultural exchange and inclusion—bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to share in a proud Canadian tradition.
