On October 6, CCIS proudly served as a Gold Sponsor and Co-Organizer of the 2025 Immigrant Business Expo (IBE), a signature event dedicated to empowering immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs in Calgary. Hosted at the Calgary Central Library in collaboration with New Horizons Media Inc., the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association, and the Calgary Public Library, the Expo brought together hundreds of participants for a day of inspiration, learning, and connection.
The event began with a blessing from Elder Herman, setting the tone for reflection, unity, and respect. Attendees participated in workshops, a panel discussion, and explored a vibrant marketplace showcasing newcomer-owned businesses.
Through the Business, Employment & Training Services (BETS) Division, CCIS has long championed newcomer entrepreneurship, supporting hundreds of aspiring business owners through initiatives such as Build Your Business (BYB), mentorship, and networking opportunities. It was especially rewarding to see several BYB alumni proudly exhibiting their products and services at the Expo, demonstrating the success that results from determination, training, and community support.
We extend heartfelt thanks to all partners, volunteers, speakers, and participants whose contributions made the day a success. Together, we continue to build belonging, opportunity, and inclusion, strengthening our local economy, celebrating newcomer innovation, and ensuring every entrepreneur has the tools to thrive in Canada.
