Foothills Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator

Part-Time | 25 hours/week

CCIS (Calgary Catholic Immigration Society) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Southern Alberta. Since our inception in 1981, we have been a community leader with solid experience in the design and delivery of comprehensive services for our newest neighbours. We deliver these services through a dynamic multi-cultural, multi-denominational and multi-disciplinary team of professionals who collectively speak over 60 languages.

From airport reception to a first job interview, CCIS’s programs and services have been designed to assist immigrants and refugees through all phases of the settlement and integration process. CCIS is committed to welcoming and serving newcomers of all races, ethnic and national origins, cultural backgrounds and religions, sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions.

CCIS – Community Development and Integration Services (CDIS) Division

Our Community Development and Integration Services Division works towards empowering individuals and communities to make changes through education, volunteerism, and community development and integration strategies. CDIS is committed to creating a welcoming community and helping newcomers and the community alike work together to build an inclusive community. CDIS programs support this goal through various community approaches, including volunteerism, education, outreach, community development, and cultural diversity capacity building.

Job Summary

Foothills Community Immigrant Services, a CCIS project, is seeking a Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator. The position is intended to facilitate a collaborative framework with community partners to ensure the development and implementation of successful and sustainable strategies to build welcoming communities, integrate newcomer/immigrant needs, support immigrant recruitment and retention, create active inclusion, and increase the sense of belonging of newcomers.

  • Familiarity or resident of the Foothills area (Okotoks / High River) preferred!

Functional Statement:

The Foothills Local Immigration Partnership (FLIP) is a collaborative community initiative funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).  Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs):

  • Systematize local engagement of service providers and other community organizations for welcoming and including newcomers in the community.
  • Support community-level research and strategic planning.
  • Improve coordination of effective services that facilitate immigrant settlement and integration.

LIPs do not deliver services directly to newcomers but facilitate a collaborative framework with community partners to ensure the development and implementation of successful and sustainable strategies to integrate newcomer/immigrant needs, build welcoming communities, support immigrant recruitment and retention, create active inclusion, and increase the sense of belonging of newcomers.

The FLIP coordinator will be based out of our Okotoks and High River offices, and primarily responsible for managing and facilitating objectives of the LIP in the communities within the Foothills region.  S/he will work together with the CCIS LIP team lead and the Rocky View LIP coordinator and will be accountable to the Partnership Councils (or their Chair(s)) and a regional coordinator.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Engage stakeholders
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings
  • Support the Councils and Working Groups
  • Facilitate the implementation of the FLIP action plan
  • Work together with communities in the Foothills region to develop successful and sustainable strategies to:
    • Integrate newcomer/immigrant needs
    • Build welcoming communities
    • Support immigrant recruitment and retention
    • Create active inclusion
    • Increase the sense of belonging of newcomers
  • Participate in meetings/activities held by partner organizations to foster strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Conduct research about local needs of newcomers
  • Conduct program evaluations
  • Be informed of best practices

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education
    • University degree or equivalent experience in any people, public relations, business, communication, or cultural-focused discipline, including living abroad
  • Experience
    • Proven track record of working with multiple stakeholders, maximizing collaboration and creative community solutions
    • Background and demonstrated evidence of recent work in community development and community engagement is essential
    • Experience facilitating groups, processes, and community engagement
    • Experience in research, strategy development, communication plans, and marketing plans is an asset
  • Knowledge
    • Knowledge and understanding of issues related to the successful settlement of newcomers
    • Knowledge and understanding of communities in the Foothills are an asset
