Everyone at the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) congratulates our Sherrisa Celis on receiving the Minister’s Seniors Service Award for her outstanding work in addressing seniors’ issues and for her varied efforts to make the lives of seniors in southern Alberta as enjoyable and meaningful as possible.

The Minister’s Seniors Service Awards recognize individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations who support seniors, lead the way for improved services and contribute to strong communities.

Sherrisa was presented with the award by the Honourable Josephine Pon, Alberta’s Minister of Seniors and Housing. She was one of nine recipients of the 2022 awards.

“We owe a debt of thanks to those who dedicate their time, talents and resources to help seniors. This year’s award recipients are no exception. They worked to protect seniors from fraud and abuse. They advocated for improved quality of life. They reduced financial barriers for seniors who need hearing aids. And much, much more,” said Minister Pon.

Sherrisa joined CCIS in 2006 and has become an instrumental leader in advocating for seniors’ issues, such as elder abuse awareness, throughout Canada.

She is a co-chair of Calgary Elder Abuse Awareness Collective, a partnership of agencies working together to provide awareness and education on issues that affect seniors.

She has arranged various workshops and outdoor activities for seniors, such as Multi-cultural Day, National Seniors Day, and social activities which support the social integration and engagement of seniors.

Her outgoing and caring personality and exceptional leadership skills have helped many seniors thrive, and her volunteerism and creativity in serving seniors continues to impress and inspire everyone around her.
