Every day, in 26 locations across Calgary and southern Alberta, a quiet but powerful force for good is at work. It’s the force of our volunteers.
This National Volunteer Week (April 19–25), we’re shouting from the rooftops: THANK YOU. This year’s national theme, Ignite Volunteerism, perfectly captures what you do.
You don’t just give time; you spark a fire of hope that spreads warmth throughout our entire community. You probably didn’t do it for the thanks. You did it because someone needed help, and you showed up.
The numbers are truly astounding. In 2025 alone, 736 dedicated volunteers came together to contribute an incredible 23,905 hours of service. Putting that in perspective: that’s the equivalent of nearly 1,000 full days of kindness. Whether it’s helping a newcomer with their documents, offering a friendly smile at a community event, or sharing the wisdom of lived experience, every single hour has helped build a more welcoming Calgary.
This dedication was on full display at our annual Milestone Volunteer Recognition Event this past December. Held in honour of International Volunteer Day, it was a beautiful evening of celebration. A particularly touching highlight was seeing volunteers from our rural programs, who travelled all the way from Claresholm, join us to receive the recognition they so richly deserve.
Their dedication proves that the act of giving back not only changes lives but builds bridges between cultures, generations, and neighbours.
Thank you for being the heart of CCIS. Thank you for igniting the spark of belonging.
