Moving to a new country can be quite a challenge, as there are many things to observe and learn. To better prepare for the journey to Canada, Mehrdad Rajabi chose to join the Settlement Online Pre-Arrival (SOPA) Program , after receiving the pre-arrival letter from IRCC.
Originally from Tehran, Iran, Mehrdad is a research chemist with more than 23 years of experience in the National Petrochemical Company, Research & Technology (NPC-RT), and the strategic director of PUREAOX, a home filter adsorbents company located in Canada.
Knowing the significance of gathering information before arrival. He wanted to learn more about the best approach to seek employment in Canada, and through the SOPA program he started gaining this valuable information:
“I was previously unfamiliar with how to write a Canadian resume and how to find a job in Canada. SOPA helped me understand these things well. Identifying my skills, qualifications and accomplishments. How I can search for a job in Canada. Networking to find hidden jobs and advertisement jobs. Writing a targeted resume and cover letter. Job and information interviews preparation strategies and tips.”
With more confidence in understanding how to approach employers and applying for future opportunities, Mehrdad encourages those who are yet to come to practice and build their confidence by applying for jobs and even interviewing online from their home country. As this will boost their confidence and chances of finding a suitable job, in the first few months after arrival. Thanks to the support of Mehrdad’s Job Search Strategies facilitator, Aneta Popa who carefully reviewed assignments, provided valuable guidance, and responded quickly to any enquiries he is now more confident in applying for work.
