A Weekend of Culture, Community and Connection

On September 12 and 13, Medicine Hat residents gathered to celebrate diversity, culture, and community through the Medicine Hat Cultural Days and the 4th International Soccer Tournament & Sports Experience. The events brought together newcomers and long-time residents for a weekend of cultural exchange, performances, and friendly competition.

The celebrations were organized by local cultural associations and community groups, creating opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to connect and share their traditions. As part of Medicine Hat Cultural Days, attendees also enjoyed Art in Motion, an interactive arts initiative presented by the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre that showcased creativity, movement, and cultural expression.

Cultural performances highlighted traditions from African, Thai, Mexican, Métis, Latin American, and other communities, while a community resource fair connected residents with local organizations and services available throughout the region.

The following day, six teams representing Canada, Guatemala, Thailand, Nepal, and Mexico took part in the soccer tournament at the Big Marble Go Centre. A friendly volleyball match between members of the Thai and Ukrainian communities added to the spirit of friendship, inclusion, and cultural exchange.

Together, the events demonstrated how culture, sport, and community engagement can strengthen connections and foster a greater sense of belonging for everyone who calls Medicine Hat home.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre, Medicine Hat Accommodation Association, Costco, Alberta Culture Days, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners for their support in making the weekend a success. Their contributions created opportunities for residents to celebrate diversity, build relationships, and strengthen community spirit.
