Showcasing Sport and Community through Sepak Takraw

On Saturday, September 5, CCIS supported organizers of the Sepak Takraw Championship in Medicine Hat, helping connect sponsors with an event that celebrated sport, culture, and community. The tournament featured eight teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, with the host team, Medicine Hat, finishing first.

Often described as a blend of volleyball and soccer, Sepak Takraw is a popular Southeast Asian sport in which players use their feet, knees, chest, and head to volley a rattan ball over a net. Known for its athleticism and acrobatic kicks, the sport drew participants and spectators from Thailand, Myanmar, and the Philippines.

The event also introduced many local residents to a sport that is rarely seen in Canada, creating opportunities for cultural exchange and community connection. Through partnerships like this, CCIS continues to support Temporary Foreign Workers from Thailand and other communities in Medicine Hat and Redcliff, helping them stay connected to activities that are meaningful to them.
