Rocky View Immigrant Services (RVIS) had the opportunity to participate in the roundtable “Strengthening Voices, Creating Opportunities: Social Leadership and Latin Organizations in Calgary,” held as part of the Annual Conference of the Canadian Association for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CALACS/ACELAC) at the University of Calgary.
This meaningful gathering brought together social leaders and representatives from Latin organizations in Calgary to discuss the needs, challenges, strengths, and contributions of Latin American communities in the city, as well as the initiatives that support adaptation, integration, belonging, and participation in Canadian society.
As a representative of RVIS and the rural project of Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS), Settlement Counsellor, Mayil Sanchez, participated as a panelist, sharing professional and community experience in supporting newcomers, immigrants, and diverse communities. The presentation highlighted the importance of accessible settlement services, community connections, mentorship, inclusion, and creating opportunities that empower newcomers to successfully integrate and thrive.
It was an honour for RVIS to be part of this important dialogue, collaborate with fellow community leaders, and contribute to amplifying Latin American voices, strengthening partnerships, and promoting more inclusive and connected communities.
