As students across Alberta prepared for a new school year, children from Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) families in the Brooks-Newell region received backpacks and school supplies through Humaniti Foundation’s Beyond Backpacks, an initiative launched in Alberta in partnership with Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS).
Working through its various locations, including Brooks and County Immigration Services (BCIS), CCIS helped distribute backpacks to families, ensuring students had the supplies they needed to begin the school year prepared and ready to learn.

For many families, the start of the school year can bring additional financial pressures. The initiative helps ease some of those costs while supporting children’s educational success and well-being.
Temporary Foreign Workers play an important role in supporting key industries throughout the Brooks-Newell Region. Through initiatives like these we could send a message to families that their contributions to the community are valued and that support is available as they build their lives in Alberta.
“Education is one of the greatest investments we can make in our children’s future,” said Jorge Paas, TFW Client Support Worker with BCIS. “Receiving a backpack may seem simple, but for many families it represents encouragement, support, and a reminder that the community cares about their children’s success.”

Sincere thanks to the donors, sponsors, and community partners whose generosity helped make the initiative possible. Through partnerships such as Beyond Backpacks, CCIS and its subsidiaries continue to support newcomer and Temporary Foreign Worker families, helping children start the school year with confidence and the tools they need to succeed.
