I arrived in Canada as a newcomer, filled with hope, excitement, and a fair share of uncertainty. Moving to a new country is like stepping into the unknown—new surroundings, unfamiliar work environments, and a future that feels uncertain. I faced many challenges, from adapting to the cultural differences to figuring out how to start my career in this new land.
At first, I felt lost. When you arrive in a new country, you don’t always know where to begin. You’re unsure how things work, what steps to take, or even whether your efforts will pay off. It’s a feeling many newcomers can relate to—the fear of the unknown.
Then, I discovered CCIS and their Information and Technology Bridging (ITB) program. This was a turning point in my journey. CCIS provided me with invaluable guidance on how the Canadian workplace operates. They taught me the dos and don’ts of professional life in Canada and introduced me to resources I didn’t even know existed. They didn’t just help me build my career—they gave me the confidence and motivation to keep moving forward.
Through CCIS, I learned about career-building strategies, networking opportunities, and job search techniques. They prepared me for the realities of the job market and equipped me with the tools I needed to succeed. One of the most impactful aspects of my journey was the opportunity to gain hands-on experience from the internship and practical work placements through the ITB program, where I applied my skills in a real-world setting. This experience eventually led to a full-time, permanent job—a dream for many newcomers. Thanks to CCIS, this dream became a reality for me.
Unfortunately, not everyone is aware that resources like CCIS exist. I’ve met many people who struggle because they simply don’t know where to turn for help. That’s why I believe it’s important to share stories like mine—to let other newcomers know that they are not alone, and help is available.
Looking back, I can say with certainty that discovering CCIS was the best thing that happened to me after arriving in Canada. They didn’t just teach me how to navigate the job market—they helped me build a future. And for that, I am truly grateful.
