Brooks Got Talent: 15 Years of Stars, Stage, and Belonging

It happened again this year. The lights went down. The crowd leaned in. And someone you might have seen in a different role walked onto a stage in Brooks and did something brave.

Brooks Got Talent returned for its 15th year, hosted by our BCIS Brooks office. The theme this year: A Season of Stars. How fitting.

The evening brought together neighbours, families, and friends. After 15 years, this event has become part of the rhythm of this community.

The performances came one after another, each carrying its own story. The Brooks Choral Society. Garma and Guilitah. Daniella Doronilla. Carolina Garzón. Emily Maurette. Reagan Folkerts. Rodelio Morales. Daniella and Prishnny. Joel Pineda. Aregobak Dancers. Rachel Aditi. Lilinana and Mike.

Some sang. Some danced. And you were glad to be watching.

Joel Goodnough guided the evening as emcee. Ricardo Morales, our Director of Community Development Integration Services & Southern Alberta Rural Projects, offered opening and closing remarks alongside Mohammed Y. Idriss, who serves both as Service Manager of our BCIS Brooks office and as a City Councillor for Brooks. Two hats, one shared commitment.

The people who made it possible

This kind of night doesn’t happen merely on good intentions. A huge shoutout goes to our sponsors.

Major Sponsors JBS Canada and Avenue Living stepped up. Platinum Sponsor Brooks Dental. Gold Sponsors The New Aim Immigration Services Inc. and Greenbrook Pharmacy. Silver Sponsors Indian Panflame – Brooks and CANAF. Bronze Sponsors MaxWell Realty, Foresight Vision Center, and Davis Chevrolet.

And then there were the door prize sponsors, from a plethora of our supporters.

A special thanks to Medicine Hat College Brooks Campus, who provided 50 attendees with access to a free continuing studies course: Navigating Change With Confidence. A meaningful gift.

15 years matter

You don’t keep an event going for a decade and a half by accident. You keep it going because people show up – performers who are nervous and hopeful, volunteers who arrive early and leave late, sponsors who write cheques without being asked twice.

You keep it going because a community decides that talent deserves a stage.

Here’s to the 15 years. Here’s to the next season of stars.
